Session educates community members on evaluating, reporting threats
This week, the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce hosted a free community training at the Klimisch Center for Business Innovation at the WPS Powerhouse. The program was focused on Threat Evaluation and Reporting Overview (TERO) and was led by Certified Master Trainer Hope Cameron.
The session introduced attendees to a Department of Homeland Security course, which takes a behavioral approach to preventing targeted violence. Cameron walked participants through the risk factors, life stressors and warning behaviors that can signal someone may be on a pathway to violence, along with the important role bystanders play in speaking up.
A key takeaway from the session: people don't snap, they decide. Because targeted violence is planned, there are real opportunities to notice concerning behavior and step in, and that's what makes prevention possible.
Organizations interested in hosting a TERO session can contact Cameron at hcameron@wausauschools.org.
