Events at the WPS Powerhouse

A variety of events are scheduled for The Workshop. Browse a calendar of these events here.

Explore the History

Built in 1904, Wausau's original powerhouse supplied electricity for streetcars, connecting Wausau to Schofield and Rothschild. In the decades that followed, business and industry expanded rapidly along the streetcar route, helping shape the region into the thriving business corridor we recognize today.

With the building standing vacant for more than a decade, the structure was to be razed in 2020. In June of 2021, through a partnership with WPS, the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce secured a long-term lease of 20 years to preserve and repurpose the Powerhouse for the 21st Century.
