Voices of the Past: Tour through Pine Grove Cemetery
The Marathon County Historical Society presents our biennial “Voices from the Past: A Discovery Walk through Pine Grove Cemetery”
The Marathon County Historical Society presents “Voices from the Past: A Discovery Walk through Pine Grove Cemetery” on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Pine Grove Cemetery along Grand Avenue in Wausau. The first tour will leave at 11 a.m., and the last tour will begin at 2 p.m.
Costumed re-enactors will tell stories from Marathon County’s past as groups of visitors walk a guided route through Pine Grove Cemetery. Each year we plan this tour, we highlight different people from local history. Among those to be featured this year are:
- James Colby, a prominent local photographer who documented much of Marathon County in the early 1900s and experimented with superimposing one view onto another photo (much like Photoshop today).
- Eva Quaw, daughter of Mary Poor, who became a teacher at age 16 and was active in numerous local social and political circles including the Temperance movement.
- Daniel McNaughton, a railroad switch operator for 50 years with a perspective on the rise of the railroad.
Visitors will hear these and other stories as each group walks the route through Pine Grove Cemetery, rain or shine.
Suggested donation is $5 per person. Advance registration is not required. For more information, please call the Marathon County Historical Society at 715-842-5750.
