Ted Abernathy, Managing Partner
Economic Leadership LLC
Abernathy has 37 years of experience in directing local and regional economic development and workforce development programs. Economic Leadership LLC, is a small group of data and policy nerds that is currently working with a diverse group of public and private clients to develop state and local strategic action agendas, identify best practices, apply data analytics and reimagine the future. Over the past five years Abernathy has worked on close to 100 projects including designing an innovation ecosystem for a new science city in Kenya, producing an annual Home of Future Thinking conference, and creating a new company that assesses and improves group leadership. Born in Dallas, NC, Abernathy received his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hillm his master's from Johns Hopkins University, is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute and is an Eisenhower Fellow for global economics.
Jon Roberts, Principal
TIP Strategies Inc
Roberts is an international leader in economic development and has overseen projects throughout the US, as well as in Europe and Asia. Roberts provides strategic direction to communities and regions across the country. A hallmark of his work is recognizing the relationships between seemingly unconnected trends. He is able to communicate their relevance and offer clients a clear path of action. In addition to being a practitioner in the field, he has prepared policy papers on national economic development strategy and the future of jobs, published articles on economic development marketing, and has written editorials for major newspapers. Roberts is a sought-after speaker on economic development issues nationally and internationally. Roberts was formerly the Director of Business Development both for the State of Washington and then for the State of Texas. In these positions, he directed recruitment and investment and led international trade missions. Prior to working for the Washington Department of Trade, Roberts was with the Oregon Technology Fund, where he was responsible for venture capital investments. He also managed two start-up companies: Fiberlite Composites and LifePort Inc., and worked with the Center for Entrepreneurial Ventures.
